Burlington, Vermont – Residents across Vermont and northern New York should prepare for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon, capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and torrential downpours. Humid conditions are setting the stage for significant weather changes throughout the day.

According to the US National Weather Service Burlington VT, storms are most likely between 2 PM and 8 PM today. The Lower Connecticut River Valley will experience the hottest conditions, with heat indices potentially reaching 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit this morning before the storms arrive.

These thunderstorms could bring significant impacts, including localized flooding, hazardous driving conditions, and potential power outages from strong wind gusts. Travelers on major roadways, particularly those in the Connecticut River Valley, should be aware of rapidly changing weather. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and stay indoors during the peak storm activity. Charge all electronic devices in case of power interruptions.

A strong front is expected to pass east tonight, bringing a few strong wind gusts. While the immediate threat diminishes after 8 PM, isolated impacts could linger. Authorities will issue further advisories if conditions worsen.
