Macon, Ga. – A fast-moving line of severe thunderstorms is triggering a weather alert across 30 Georgia counties this evening, with potential threats including damaging winds, large hail, and power outages through 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 337 remains in effect for areas stretching from Columbus to Dublin and as far north as Milledgeville. The greatest risks include wind gusts over 60 mph and quarter-size hail capable of damaging trees, vehicles, and power lines.
Communities under the watch include Macon, Warner Robins, Columbus, Dublin, Americus, and Thomaston. Travel may become hazardous as strong wind gusts could down limbs along U.S. Highways 80, 41, and 441. Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor weather alerts closely.
Emergency management officials warn this storm system could intensify quickly. Isolated power outages have already been reported in parts of Muscogee and Houston counties. People relying on medical devices should ensure backup power sources are ready.
The severe weather threat will taper off after sunset, but additional warnings may be issued if storms continue developing. Stay tuned for updates and take cover if warnings are issued in your area.
