Omaha, NE – A wave of thunderstorms is expected to move across eastern Nebraska today, bringing the risk of small hail, gusty winds, and pockets of heavy rainfall to areas including Omaha and communities south of Interstate 80.

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley office, the storm system will remain active through Thursday night. While the overall severe weather threat is low, localized impacts such as minor flooding and strong wind gusts may occur, especially in southeastern portions of the state. Cooler temperatures are expected in northeast Nebraska, while areas along and south of I-80 will see warmer conditions ranging from 52°F to 72°F.

Drivers are advised to monitor changing road conditions and be alert for reduced visibility during downpours. Residents should secure outdoor items and remain weather-aware, as brief severe conditions may develop quickly. The NWS reports that spotty morning showers may persist into Friday, particularly south of I-80.

Conditions are forecast to improve by Saturday, with dry weather and near-normal temperatures in the mid-60s. However, rain chances return Sunday, bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms across the region. Authorities urge Nebraskans to check local forecasts regularly and follow safety guidelines through the weekend.
