Flagstaff, AZ – A low-pressure system moving north of Arizona is set to bring strong winds and dry weather across the northern part of the state from Friday through Sunday, prompting heightened fire weather concerns.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, wind gusts are forecast to range between 30 to 46 mph across cities including Flagstaff, Winslow, Show Low, and Springerville. The strongest winds are expected Saturday, with gusts peaking at 46 mph in Show Low and Springerville. These conditions significantly increase the risk of wildfires, especially in forested and high desert areas.
Motorists operating high-profile vehicles, such as RVs, campers, and tractor-trailers, are urged to use extra caution when traveling through open highways and elevated terrain. Dry air and above-average temperatures through Saturday will be followed by a noticeable drop in temperatures on Sunday, with Flagstaff cooling to the mid-50s and Winslow dipping to 70°F.
Authorities recommend avoiding outdoor burning and securing loose outdoor items. Residents in vulnerable areas should remain alert to evolving fire conditions and have evacuation plans ready. No precipitation is expected during this period.
