Asheville, NC – A Wind Advisory has been issued for the North Carolina mountains from 8 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected across the region. The highest ridgetops could experience gusts from 55 to 60 mph at times.
The advisory covers multiple counties, including Avery, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Swain, Haywood, and Buncombe. Cities such as Asheville, Waynesville, and Hendersonville may see impacts, particularly in exposed areas.
Strong winds may cause tree limbs to fall, potentially leading to isolated power outages. Unsecured objects could be blown around, and driving high-profile vehicles may become hazardous, especially on mountain roads.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and use caution while traveling. Motorists should be prepared for sudden wind gusts, particularly on elevated roadways and exposed bridges.
This wind event follows a pattern of springtime disturbances bringing frequent strong wind conditions to the region. Stay updated with local forecasts and alerts for any changes in advisory conditions.
