Morristown, TN – Strong winds are sweeping through eastern Tennessee this morning, prompting a wind advisory in multiple counties until 8 a.m. EDT. Residents in Johnson, Southeast Carter, Blount Smoky Mountains, Cocke Smoky Mountains, East Polk, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Southeast Greene, Southeast Monroe, and Unicoi counties should prepare for gusts reaching up to 60 mph in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, south winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts between 45 and 55 mph. Higher elevations and foothill regions may see isolated gusts nearing 60 mph. These winds pose hazards to unsecured outdoor objects, tree limbs, and power lines, potentially leading to power outages.
Motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, are urged to use extra caution. Wind conditions could make travel challenging, particularly on mountain roads and open highways. Residents are advised to secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and any loose items to prevent damage.
This advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m., after which winds are expected to gradually subside. Updates on changing conditions will be provided by the National Weather Service as necessary.
