Milwaukee, WI – A veteran Milwaukee Police Department detective has been criminally charged following an investigation into allegations of misconduct, department officials announced Wednesday.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the agency became aware of allegations involving Detective Tehranchi Chapman on March 13, 2026. The information was immediately referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for review and investigation.
Police said the subsequent investigation substantiated the allegations. On Wednesday, July 8, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against Chapman.
The department said Chapman, who has more than 22 years of service with the Milwaukee Police Department, has remained on full suspension since March 13, 2026, while the investigation has been underway.
Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said the department remains committed to accountability and ethical standards.
“No one is above the law. We expect all members of this department—both sworn officers and professional staff—to uphold the highest ethical standards. We will continue to take decisive action to preserve public trust and honor the values of this organization,” Norman said.
The department also emphasized that Chapman is entitled to due process and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Milwaukee Police Department said it remains focused on transparency, community engagement, and maintaining public trust. Authorities directed the public to the attached criminal complaint for additional details regarding the allegations.
