Spokane Valley, WA – Two juveniles were arrested after deputies responded to a reported person-with-a-weapon call in Spokane Valley and investigated allegations that a pellet gun and knife were used to threaten victims.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 8:45 p.m. on June 19 to the 11800 block of East Broadway Avenue in Spokane Valley.
Investigators said the victims were walking through a parking lot near an apartment complex with young children when they observed a group of teenagers who appeared to be fighting or roughhousing in the pool area. After one of the victims reportedly yelled at the group to stop, the situation escalated.
According to deputies, one juvenile allegedly removed what appeared to be a handgun from a backpack, pointed it toward the victims and pulled the trigger several times, though the weapon did not discharge. Authorities said a second juvenile allegedly displayed a large knife and pointed it toward the victims in an aggressive manner.
The victims told deputies they feared for their safety and the safety of the children with them.
Additional deputies responded and located the group nearby. Most of the juveniles reportedly fled but were later detained in the 11800 block of East Alki Avenue.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators recovered both the knife and the suspected firearm. The gun was later determined to be a pellet gun rather than an actual firearm.
Authorities identified the juvenile allegedly holding the pellet gun as a 12-year-old and the juvenile allegedly displaying the knife as an 11-year-old.
Both juveniles were transported to the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center and booked on misdemeanor charges of allegedly brandishing or intimidating with a weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
