Tennessee Police Officer Fatally Shot Responding to Suspicious Vehicle Call on Friday

Memphis, TN – A Tennessee police officer lost his life while responding to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle on Friday. 

Officer Joseph McKinney, 26, was pronounced dead following the confrontation that also saw two other officers wounded. The Memphis Police Department, reeling from this profound loss, praised McKinney for his exemplary service since joining the force in 2020.

According to the Memphis Police Department, the incident occurred in the early morning hours, and the injured officers were swiftly transported to Regional One Hospital. McKinney, remembered for his bravery and dedication, leaves behind a grieving family and a police force united in sorrow.

Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler issued a heartfelt statement expressing his deepest condolences. “This senseless loss incredibly saddens us. Our heartful prayers and sincere condolences go out to Officer McKinney’s family, both Blood and Blue – we pray for the complete healing of the two officers who also sustained injury during this unthinkable tragedy. The men and women at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office stand with the Memphis Police Department.”
