Murfreesboro, TN – A disturbing animal cruelty investigation in Rutherford County has turned fatal after a dog allegedly dragged by a truck driver later died from its injuries, prompting an urgent search for the suspect.
According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Tuesday night, May 5, 2026, near Burleson Lane and Justice Drive. Detectives say the dog was allegedly dragged more than 600 yards behind a vehicle.
Witnesses found the severely injured animal in a ditch and rushed it for emergency veterinary care. However, officials with Rutherford County Pet Adoption and Welfare Services confirmed the dog later succumbed to its injuries.
Investigators are now working to identify the driver involved. According to Detective Andrew Quintal, the suspect vehicle is believed to be a white Ford pickup truck, possibly an F-250. The truck may have distinguishing features, including white spotlights mounted near both side mirrors and a light bar on top of the cab.
Authorities say multiple agencies are assisting in the search as the investigation remains active.
