Ohio Driver Strikes Police Cruiser, Chase Leads to Bus Stop Collision; Infant Among Five inside

Columbus, OH – A routine night turned urgent for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office when a deputy’s cruiser, parked on the East side of Columbus, was hit by a car at approximately 3:30 AM. 

According to Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reports, driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene, leading to a brief police pursuit. The chase culminated when the car crashed into a COTA bus stop and utility pole on Cleveland Ave.

According to authorities, there were five people in the fleeing car, including an infant. Medics assessed all passengers on the scene; the infant was transported to a hospital as a precaution, and two others were treated for minor injuries. Support arrived from Clinton Township and Columbus Police Department, with notifications going out to COTA and AEP.

The street remains partially closed off to traffic as an investigation continues.
