Kidder County, ND Crash Today: 18-Year-Old Woman Killed in Rollover

Kidder County, ND – An 18-year-old Jamestown woman was killed Sunday evening after a single-vehicle rollover crash in rural Kidder County, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. Sunday, June 21, near the intersection of 21st Street Southeast and 44th Avenue Southeast, about two miles west of Pettibone.

Investigators said a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north on 44th Avenue Southeast when the driver attempted to turn east onto 21st Street Southeast. During the maneuver, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

Authorities said the 18-year-old female driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that road conditions were dry at the time of the crash, and weather conditions were also clear and dry. The vehicle was traveling on a gravel roadway when the crash occurred.

According to the preliminary investigation, no seat belt was in use.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Kidder County Sheriff’s Office, Pettibone Rural Fire Department, Steele Fire and Rescue, and Steele Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details regarding potential contributing factors.

Fatal rollover crashes continue to be a leading cause of roadway deaths nationwide, with safety officials consistently emphasizing the importance of seat belt use as one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash.
