Yosemite, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to hit the Sierra Nevada late Sunday, bringing hazardous conditions to parts of Yosemite National Park and surrounding high-elevation regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday, March 30, through 11 p.m. Tuesday, April 1. The affected areas include Kaiser to Rodgers Ridge, the Upper San Joaquin River, and Yosemite National Park outside of the valley.
Forecasters expect 1 to 2 feet of snow to accumulate during the storm, with wind gusts reaching up to 65 mph. Blowing snow and reduced visibility could make travel very difficult to impossible, especially during the Monday morning and evening commute hours.
Residents and visitors in areas like Shaver Lake, Lake Thomas Edison, Wawona, and Devils Postpile should prepare for potential power outages and falling trees due to the strong winds.
Officials urge travelers to avoid unnecessary trips and to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, in their vehicles. Road conditions can be monitored via Caltrans by calling 5-1-1.
This late-season winter storm poses serious risks in higher elevations. Stay tuned to local alerts for updates and travel advisories through Tuesday night.
