Minneapolis, MN — A late-season storm is sweeping across the Upper Midwest, bringing a wintry mix of ice and snow to both Minnesota and western Wisconsin through Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, precipitation began as rain Saturday afternoon before transitioning into freezing rain and snow overnight. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across the region with varying impacts based on location.

Western and central Minnesota, including cities like Alexandria, St. Cloud, and Willmar, are expected to receive between 2 to 4 inches of snow by Sunday afternoon. In contrast, areas south and east—such as Chisago and Washington counties in Minnesota, and Polk, Barron, and St. Croix counties in Wisconsin—are more likely to see up to two-tenths of an inch of ice from freezing rain.

Slippery road conditions are expected to impact travel, especially through Sunday morning and early afternoon. Temperatures hovering near freezing may prolong icy conditions in affected areas.

Drivers are advised to slow down and check conditions via 511mn.org or 511wi.gov before traveling. The storm system is forecast to exit the region late Sunday, bringing improving conditions by evening.
