Salt River Pass, WY – A major winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and high winds to western Wyoming. Forecasters warn travel could become treacherous.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning effective until 5 p.m. Tuesday for the Salt River and Wind River mountain ranges. The area is expected to receive between 10 and 16 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Hazardous conditions are likely to impact commutes through South Pass and Salt River Pass Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
According to the NWS, residents should avoid unnecessary travel and carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, if driving is unavoidable. Officials recommend checking updated forecasts and road conditions at Weather.gov or WyoRoad.info.
With high snow accumulations and strong winds expected, power outages and reduced visibility are possible. Residents are encouraged to prepare their homes and vehicles ahead of worsening conditions.
