Cheyenne, WY – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Wyoming through Wednesday morning, bringing strong winds, moderate to heavy snowfall, and a rapid drop in temperatures. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter storm warnings and weather advisories across the region.

According to the NWS in Cheyenne, the storm will bring brief but intense snowfall rates, creating hazardous travel conditions. Snow accumulation of 1-6 inches is expected across much of the state, with localized areas near Arlington and Shirley Basin potentially receiving 3-4 inches. Wind gusts may exceed 50 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Winter weather advisories are in effect for Carbon County, the US-20 corridor, and the I-80 corridor through early Wednesday morning. The mountains remain under a winter storm warning until 6 a.m. Wednesday, with heavier snowfall possible. A high wind warning has also been issued for the I-80 Summit and foothills, lasting through midnight Tuesday.

Residents are urged to prepare for dangerous road conditions and a potential flash freeze. Travelers should monitor weather updates, as rapid temperature drops may lead to icy roads. Light snow showers and gusty winds may linger into Wednesday morning before conditions improve later in the day.
