Cheyenne, WY – The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges of southern Wyoming, warning of heavy snow and strong winds from midnight Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday, October 27.
Forecasters expect 6 to 10 inches of total snowfall, accompanied by wind gusts up to 50 mph, creating blowing snow and whiteout conditions at times. The advisory includes the communities of Albany and Centennial, along with popular mountain recreation areas.
According to the NWS, the storm could significantly impact Monday morning and evening commutes, with slick roads, falling snow, and reduced visibility expected along mountain highways and passes. Outdoor activities such as hiking, hunting, and snowmobiling could become dangerous due to rapidly deteriorating weather and low visibility.
Residents and travelers are advised to slow down, carry emergency supplies, and check road conditions by calling 511 before venturing into higher elevations.
Snow and wind are expected to gradually diminish Monday night as the system moves east.
