Jackson, WY – A significant winter storm is delivering heavy snow and strong winds across western Wyoming, affecting both travel and safety through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. MDT Saturday for areas including Jackson Hole, Star Valley, Yellowstone National Park, and multiple mountain ranges. Snow accumulations are expected to range from 3 to 7 inches in valleys, with up to 12 inches possible in higher elevations. Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are forecast, creating blowing snow and low visibility on roadways.

Mountain passes, including those through the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains, Wind River Mountains, and the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges, are likely to experience dangerous winter driving conditions. Travelers in Jackson, Afton, Alpine, and surrounding communities should plan for delays, drifting snow, and slick roads.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check road updates at wyoroad.info. Residents are also advised to limit non-essential travel and prepare for temporary whiteout conditions in exposed areas.
