Marquette, MI – A mix of snow, ice, and strong winds is expected to impact travel across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula beginning early Sunday morning and continuing through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 5 a.m. EDT Sunday to 2 p.m. EDT Monday for Gogebic, Ontonagon, and Southern Houghton Counties. Meanwhile, Northern Houghton and Keweenaw Counties are under an advisory from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday. Baraga, Marquette, Alger, and several central counties fall under an 11 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday window.

Snow totals are expected to range from 4 to 8 inches across the region, accompanied by a light glaze of ice. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph in some areas, potentially causing blowing snow and hazardous visibility.

Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly, especially during the Monday morning commute. Motorists should plan for slippery roads and limited visibility. The NWS urges drivers to reduce speed and use caution.

Residents are advised to monitor local updates and consider adjusting travel plans. Snow removal resources may be delayed due to wind-blown accumulation and icy conditions throughout the affected counties.
