Gillette, WY – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for northern Campbell and western Crook counties until 5 a.m. Sunday morning. Snowfall and gusting winds continue to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Rapid City, snow accumulations up to one inch are expected in the region, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph. Roads, including bridges and overpasses, have become slick and hazardous. Visibility in some areas has dropped below 1/4 mile due to blowing snow. Travelers are urged to drive cautiously.
Southern Campbell and Weston County Plains are also under the same advisory, which predicts similar snow totals and dangerous winds. Towns such as Rochelle, Wright, and Upton may experience increased travel difficulties overnight.
Residents in affected areas should delay non-essential travel and allow extra time if driving is unavoidable. Officials recommend monitoring weather updates and dialing 511 for current road conditions.
The winter storm is expected to subside early Sunday morning, though lingering snow and ice could extend travel concerns through the day. Commuters should remain prepared for sudden changes in visibility and icy spots, particularly on less-maintained routes.
