Duluth, MN – A powerful winter storm continues to blanket Cook County, Minnesota, with heavy snow expected through Sunday afternoon. Forecasters predict total accumulations of 8 to 14 inches, with the heaviest snowfall likely in southern Cook County. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph will worsen visibility and create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 3 p.m. CST Sunday. Northern Cook County, including Isabella and areas near the Boundary Waters, could see between 4 and 8 inches of snow by the storm’s conclusion. However, southern Cook County, including Grand Marais and the Grand Portage Reservation, will experience the brunt of the storm.

The storm’s impacts are already being felt. Roads are slick and difficult to navigate, with plows struggling to keep up with snowfall rates. Blowing and drifting snow will likely worsen as winds pick up on Sunday afternoon. Officials urge residents to avoid travel if possible. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water.

Travelers can check current road conditions by calling 511 or visiting www.511mn.org. Forecasters caution that conditions may deteriorate rapidly during the overnight hours.

Residents are advised to prepare for potential power outages due to high winds and heavy snow accumulation. Stay tuned to local weather updates and ensure that all emergency supplies are easily accessible.
