Cheyenne, WY – A narrow band of snow showers is creating dangerous driving conditions along a key stretch of Interstate 80 between Laramie and Cheyenne late Sunday into early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, snow showers began impacting southeastern Albany and southwestern Laramie counties just before midnight Sunday and are expected to persist through 1 a.m. MDT Monday. Motorists traveling along I-80—particularly between mile markers 319 and 350—should be prepared for low visibility, slick roads, and rapidly changing conditions.
Sudden bursts of moderate to heavy snow are expected, reducing visibility to under half a mile at times. Locations affected include Tie City Campground, Granite Canon, Harriman Heights, Federal, Crystal Lake Reservoir, Vedauwoo, and Happy Valley, among others.
The snow event is concentrated across the southern Laramie Range and includes travel corridors that frequently see rapid weather shifts due to elevation and wind exposure. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution and consider delaying travel if possible.
Preparedness tips include reducing speed, using headlights, and allowing extra travel time. The storm’s intensity may decrease after 1 a.m., but lingering effects on road surfaces may extend into Monday morning commutes.
