Cheyenne, Wyoming – Snow will begin impacting southern Wyoming mountains by 6 p.m. Saturday, with conditions deteriorating سريعly overnight and into Sunday, threatening travel along key corridors including Interstate 80 near Rawlins and Arlington.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges through 6 a.m. Monday. Forecasters expect 6 to 10 inches of snow, with peak elevations possibly exceeding 12 inches. Periods of light to moderate snow combined with gusty winds will reduce visibility, especially across exposed ridgelines and mountain passes.
Communities including Saratoga, Centennial, and areas west of Laramie will see the most significant impacts. Blowing snow may drop visibility below one mile at times, creating hazardous conditions for drivers, particularly along I-80 and Wyoming Highway 130. Outdoor recreation will also become dangerous, with hikers and snowmobilers at risk of disorientation in low visibility.
Travelers are urged to delay mountain travel if possible, carry emergency kits, and check Wyoming 511 for road conditions. Charge devices and prepare for rapidly changing weather.
Snow will taper early Monday morning, but slick roads and lingering impacts may continue through the morning commute. Additional advisories could be issued if snowfall totals increase.
