Columbus, Ohio – Strong thunderstorms are expected to move into the region late Monday night, bringing the risk of damaging winds, hail, and travel disruptions across central and southwest Ohio.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, storms will develop west of Ohio Monday afternoon before tracking east into the state late in the evening. The most likely window for impacts runs from about 8 p.m. Monday through 2 a.m. Tuesday, with storms weakening as they push farther east.

Cities including Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus sit within a Level 2 risk area, where damaging wind gusts and large hail are the primary concerns. Wind speeds could exceed 60 mph, strong enough to down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages. Isolated heavier downpours may also lead to brief ponding on roads, especially in urban areas.

Key corridors such as I-71, I-75, and I-70 could see reduced visibility and slick conditions during the overnight hours. Drivers should remain alert for sudden weather changes and avoid water-covered roads.

Residents are urged to enable emergency alerts and keep phones charged before going to bed, as storms are expected while many are asleep.

Storms should taper off toward early Tuesday morning, with improving conditions after sunrise. Additional updates are expected Monday as timing and storm strength become clearer.
