Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Rain is set to move into the region within hours this afternoon, with the heaviest bands expected during the evening commute and overnight, creating slick roads and potential flooding across the I-95 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, areas north and west of I-95—including Allentown and Reading—will see rain develop first by mid-afternoon, around 2 to 4 p.m. The Philadelphia metro, along with Wilmington and southern New Jersey, will likely see steadier rain arrive later, between 5 and 7 p.m., before expanding across the entire region overnight.
Rainfall totals of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected, with localized higher amounts possible. That could lead to ponding on roadways, especially in urban areas and low-lying spots. Major routes including I-95, I-76, and the New Jersey Turnpike may see reduced visibility and slower travel during peak evening hours.
Cities such as Trenton, Camden, and Atlantic City will also see widespread rain through the night, with the highest coverage between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. Sunday. Drivers should allow extra time and avoid flooded streets.
Residents are urged to check drainage areas, charge devices, and monitor alerts as rain intensifies after sunset.
Rain will taper off early Sunday morning, with improving conditions after daybreak. Additional updates are expected later today as rainfall timing becomes more precise.
