Riverton, Wyoming – Severe thunderstorms could bring large hail and isolated tornadoes to parts of central Wyoming by Tuesday evening, with Natrona and Johnson Counties facing the highest risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, storms are expected to develop after 5 p.m. across the northern two-thirds of the state. Gusty winds, heavy rain, and hail are the main threats, particularly near Casper and Buffalo. Spotty tornadoes remain a concern in the most unstable cells.

In Sweetwater County, fire danger is a growing concern. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are likely through late Tuesday afternoon due to low humidity and gusty winds, especially near Rock Springs and Green River.

Looking ahead, another round of storms is possible Wednesday afternoon in central Wyoming, including Riverton and Lander. By Friday, elevated fire weather returns as temperatures climb back into the 90s.

Residents are urged to delay outdoor activities, secure loose items, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Drivers should be alert for rapid weather changes and potential debris on roads.

Hazardous weather conditions may continue through the weekend. Additional advisories are possible by Wednesday morning.
