Cheyenne, Wyoming – Severe thunderstorms are expected to erupt across eastern Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle this afternoon, with the strongest activity likely between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts over 70 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes could pose threats to drivers and communities from Casper to Cheyenne.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a line of strong storms will likely form over central Wyoming and sweep eastward into the evening. Areas under a Level 2 “Slight” risk include Torrington, Douglas, Wheatland, and Lusk. Hail over 1 inch in diameter and wind damage are the main threats, though flash flooding and brief tornadoes can’t be ruled out.

Travelers along I-25 and US-85 should remain alert for sudden visibility drops and debris on roadways. Residents are urged to charge devices, secure loose items, and have a shelter plan in place. Outdoor events may face delays or cancellations, particularly in Converse and Platte counties.

Storm activity is expected to weaken or exit the region after midnight, but additional alerts could be issued if new storms develop.
