Cheyenne, WY – Strong, damaging winds are expected to return across southeast Wyoming Wednesday and continue through Thursday evening, with gusts reaching 70 to 80 mph along and west of the I-25 corridor, according to the National Weather Service Cheyenne.

Forecasters issued a High Wind Warning for much of the region, including Carbon and Albany counties, where winds could peak between 8 a.m. Wednesday and 5 p.m. Thursday. Areas from Rawlins to Laramie and Arlington are expected to experience the most intense gusts. A High Wind Watch remains in effect for the Shirley Basin and Converse County, where speeds may still exceed 60 mph.

According to the NWS wind timeline, maximum gusts are projected to hit 75–82 mph in wind-prone zones like Arlington, Bordeaux, and Vedauwoo, before easing Friday morning. These powerful winds may cause hazardous travel, especially for light and high-profile vehicles, and could lead to blowing dust, property damage, and power interruptions.

“Travel could be very difficult, particularly for trucks and trailers,” meteorologists cautioned in Wednesday’s update. The strongest winds are expected to occur during the day Wednesday into early Thursday before gradually diminishing late Thursday night.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, use caution if traveling on interstates, and stay alert to updated forecasts via weather.gov/cys.
