Jackson, Wyoming – Snow will begin stacking up across northwest Wyoming by 11 p.m., setting up slick mountain passes and reduced visibility for the Tuesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 11 p.m. Monday to 5 p.m. MST Tuesday for Yellowstone National Park, the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains, Wind River Mountains West, Salt River and Wyoming ranges, along with Jackson Hole and Star Valley. Mountain totals will range from 6 to 11 inches, with 8 to 12 inches over the Pitchstone Plateau and up to 20 inches on the highest peaks of the Wind River Range. Winds could gust between 45 and 55 mph in exposed terrain.

Teton and Togwotee passes are expected to pick up 4 to 8 inches, while South Pass may see 2 to 5 inches. In Jackson and Star Valley, 2 to 4 inches are likely, with a 40 percent chance Jackson exceeds 4 inches by late Tuesday morning.

Blowing snow and gusty winds may reduce visibility and create drifting across U.S. 26/287 and Wyoming Highway 22. WYDOT urges drivers to check wyoroad.info before traveling and allow extra time for mountain routes.

Snowfall tapers late Tuesday afternoon, but slick conditions may persist into the evening hours.
