Cheyenne, WY – Conditions in Wyoming’s high country are set to turn dangerous by Tuesday evening as heavy snow and strong winds move into the Sierra Madre and Snowy ranges, threatening visibility and safety through Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 9 p.m. Wednesday. Snowfall totals between 6 and 12 inches are expected, primarily above 9,000 feet, with wind gusts reaching up to 45 mph.

Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility across exposed ridgelines and mountain passes near Centennial and Albany, increasing the risk of disorientation for anyone outdoors. Backcountry areas, including trails and snowmobile routes, may become difficult to navigate as snowfall intensifies overnight.

Officials warn that hikers, hunters, and recreationists should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Travel in remote mountain areas should be avoided if possible, and anyone heading out should carry winter survival gear and emergency supplies.

Snow and wind will continue through Wednesday evening before gradually easing. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen or expand.
