Jackson, Wyo. – Strong winds and large hail could impact western Wyoming through Sunday evening as severe thunderstorms move across the region.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 8 p.m. MDT for Lincoln, Park, Sublette, Teton, and Uinta counties. Storms may produce wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to an inch in diameter, with isolated lightning strikes also expected.
Communities including Jackson, Evanston, and Pinedale are under heightened risk this afternoon and evening. Drivers along U.S. Highway 89 and I-80 near Evanston should watch for sudden visibility drops and debris blown onto the roadway. Local emergency managers are urging residents to secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm activity.
The watch includes popular recreation areas such as Grand Teton National Park and the Bridger-Teton National Forest, where campers and hikers are advised to seek shelter and remain weather-aware.
Storms are expected to weaken after sunset, but additional alerts may follow if conditions persist or intensify. Residents are encouraged to monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates through the evening.
