Cheyenne, Wyo. – Residents across the Nebraska Panhandle and parts of southeastern Wyoming should brace for severe thunderstorms this evening, with the most intense weather expected between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday. Large hail, damaging winds, and frequent lightning are all on the table.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the highest threat zones stretch from Scottsbluff and Alliance, Nebraska, down through Sidney and into parts of Goshen and Laramie counties in Wyoming. Areas within the “Slight Risk” category could see scattered severe storms, while marginal zones may experience isolated strong cells.

Major roadways including I-80 from Cheyenne to Sidney and U.S. Route 385 could be affected during peak travel hours. Drivers are urged to monitor weather updates and avoid travel during periods of lightning or high wind. Residents should secure outdoor objects and charge devices ahead of any power outages.

This system may mark one of the more widespread severe weather events of June across the region, with storms capable of producing hail the size of quarters and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph.

Severe weather alerts remain in effect through 10 p.m., with additional watches or warnings possible into the overnight hours.
