Monroe, MI – A hit-and-run incident late Saturday night in Monroe County left two pedestrians critically injured after they were struck while crossing a highway.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 9:44 p.m. Saturday on N. Dixie Highway near I-75 in Frenchtown Township. Authorities said a blue, four-door Ford sedan traveling northeast allegedly struck Connie L. Cosby and Anthony R. Keister, both 40, of Monroe, as they attempted to cross the road.

The sheriff’s report states Cosby came to rest in the center turn lane, while Keister ended up in the northeast lane. The driver of the Ford sedan reportedly fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Emergency responders from the Frenchtown Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance provided aid before Cosby and Keister were transported to Corewell Health Trenton Hospital in Trenton, Michigan. Both individuals are listed in critical condition as of Sunday morning.

Preliminary details suggest the vehicle was being driven erratically before the crash. Authorities have not confirmed whether alcohol played a role. A side rearview mirror from the suspect vehicle was recovered at the scene.

Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Traffic Services Division, including Lieutenant Brian Quinn and Deputy Sheriff Alec Preadmore, are investigating the case. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help locate the driver. Tips can be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or online at www.1800speakup.org.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Victim’s Service Unit is also providing support to the victims and their families.
