Rawlins, WY – Traffic is being rerouted in Rawlins after a semi-truck crashed into a bridge support along Interstate 80 Monday morning, causing significant damage and forcing the closure of the Higley Boulevard bridge.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, troopers responded at approximately 9 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2026, to a crash involving a westbound semi-truck on Interstate 80. Investigators said the truck drifted off the pavement into the median, where it struck both the cable barrier and the eastbound guardrail before crashing into a concrete bridge support.
Authorities said one of the bridge’s four median support columns was completely destroyed in the collision. The trailer came to rest beneath the bridge with the remaining supports embedded in it, while the tractor separated from the trailer and continued onto the guardrail.
The driver and co-driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The Higley Boulevard bridge is completely closed to traffic, and vehicles on I-80 are being redirected onto nearby exit ramps while crews work at the scene. Motorists traveling through Rawlins should expect delays and consider allowing extra travel time.
The crash remains under investigation. Troopers are coordinating with Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) engineers to assess the structural integrity of the bridge and safely reopen the interstate as soon as possible.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol also thanked the Rawlins Police Department and Rawlins Fire Department for assisting with traffic control and emergency response during the incident.
