Cheyenne, WY – Wyoming is preparing for potentially dangerous weather conditions Thursday, with high temperatures and strong winds creating a critical fire weather situation. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne has issued a Fire Weather Watch for parts of southeastern Wyoming from noon to 9 PM on Thursday.
According to the NWS, high pressure passing through the area will bring hot and dry conditions, with south to southwest winds gusting up to 35 mph. Afternoon humidity levels are expected to drop to the upper single digits to low teens, significantly increasing the risk of wildfires. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, as unattended fires could quickly spiral out of control during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Thursday’s temperatures in Cheyenne are forecast to reach 93°F, with overnight lows around 60°F. The hot spell will persist into Friday, though temperatures are expected to drop slightly to a high of 84°F. The weekend will bring a bit of relief, with Saturday and Sunday seeing highs of 85°F and 88°F, respectively.
The NWS emphasizes the importance of adhering to fire safety precautions during these conditions. Avoiding activities that could ignite a fire and being prepared for sudden weather changes are crucial steps in preventing potential wildfires.
