Kansas City, MO – Western Missouri is set to experience a significant heatwave starting today, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s to lower 90s. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Kansas City warns that temperatures will rise above normal levels as we head into the weekend, potentially bringing dangerous heat conditions.

According to the NWS, the region can expect highs of 91°F today, increasing to 93°F on Thursday, and remaining in the low 90s through Friday. A brief respite is anticipated on Saturday, with temperatures dropping to 85°F, but the heat will surge again starting Sunday, with a high of 90°F. The hottest days are forecasted for Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures soaring to 95°F and 99°F, respectively.

The 8-14 day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center indicates that this trend of above-normal temperatures will persist into the first week of August. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and watch for heat-related health issues.

As we progress into next week, Kansas City could experience highs of 97°F on Wednesday and Thursday, maintaining the hazardous heat conditions. Local officials recommend checking on vulnerable populations, including the elderly and young children, and utilizing cooling centers if necessary.
