Cheyenne, Wyo. – Drivers along Interstate 80 near Arlington and Elk Mountain are facing dangerously low visibility this morning as dense fog blankets the North Snowy Range Foothills.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until noon MDT Tuesday, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile. The advisory specifically targets the stretch of I-80 that passes through Arlington and Elk Mountain—areas known for sudden weather shifts and high-elevation travel challenges.

The fog could severely impact morning commutes and cross-state travel, particularly for truckers and high-profile vehicles. Officials urge drivers to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra distance from vehicles ahead.

This stretch of I-80 has a history of fog-related accidents during spring transitions, making conditions especially risky for unfamiliar drivers. Wyoming Department of Transportation crews are monitoring conditions and may issue additional warnings if visibility worsens.

The fog is expected to lift by early afternoon, but travelers should remain cautious and check WYDOT updates before hitting the road.
