Little America, WY – A magnitude 3.5 earthquake was recorded Wednesday afternoon just north of Little America in southwestern Wyoming, according to seismologists.

According to the University of Utah Seismograph Stations, the quake occurred at approximately 11:58 a.m. MDT and was centered 2 kilometers north-northwest of Little America. The event was measured at a depth of about 2.2 kilometers, making it relatively shallow, which may increase the likelihood of it being felt by residents in the area.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. As of Wednesday afternoon, no felt reports had been submitted to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) by residents. Authorities encourage individuals who experienced shaking to submit their observations through the USGS “Did You Feel It?” platform to aid in data collection and impact assessment.

Little America is located roughly 130 miles northeast of Salt Lake City, Utah. Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally considered minor but can serve as reminders of the region’s underlying seismic activity, especially along the Intermountain Seismic Belt, which includes parts of Utah and western Wyoming.

The area has experienced moderate seismic activity in recent years, though damaging earthquakes remain infrequent. The University of Utah Seismograph Stations continues to monitor the situation and encourages residents to review their earthquake preparedness plans.

For those living in or traveling through southwestern Wyoming and northern Utah, officials recommend staying informed through local emergency services and maintaining an emergency supply kit as a precautionary measure.
