Little America, Wyoming- A magnitude 3.6 earthquake shook parts of southwest Wyoming late Monday night, briefly rattling communities along the I-80 corridor and prompting quick checks of infrastructure near Little America. The shallow quake hit just before midnight, centered roughly 4 kilometers north-northwest of the small travel hub.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at 11:39 p.m. Monday at a depth of just over 3 kilometers, making it shallow enough for nearby residents to feel a quick jolt. No damage reports have been filed, and the USGS had not received any “Did You Feel It?” responses as of early Tuesday.
The tremor was close enough to major transportation routes that crews may give bridges and pavement a precautionary look Tuesday morning, especially along stretches of I-80 between Little America and Green River. Light shaking was possible in nearby communities, though any impact remained minimal.
Earthquakes of this size are not uncommon in the region’s broad seismic zones, which extend from western Wyoming into northern Utah and Idaho. USGS analysts will continue reviewing data and could update the event if additional readings come in.
Residents who felt shaking can submit a report through the USGS system, which helps refine intensity data for future assessments.
