Minooka, IL – A fatal crash involving a wrong-way driver shut down westbound I-80 early Friday morning near Ridge Road. The collision involved a car and a semi-truck, leaving one person dead.
According to reports from Minooka Fire Protection District, the crash occurred around 12:45 a.m. near mile marker 119. Authorities confirmed the wrong-way driver caused the head-on collision. The vehicle sustained major damage, with one person pinned inside.
Witnesses described the scene as catastrophic, reporting the car had launched into a ditch after the collision. First responders worked to free the victim, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Illinois State Police closed I-80 westbound for several hours while crews cleared the scene. Drivers were urged to avoid the area. Officials have not released the victim’s identity as the investigation continues.
