Green Bay, WI – A powerful winter storm is set to impact northern Wisconsin, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Vilas, Oneida, Florence, Forest, and Lincoln counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, Vilas County could see between 6 and 10 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Surrounding counties, including Oneida, Florence, Forest, and Lincoln, may receive 4 to 7 inches of snowfall, with winds potentially gusting as high as 40 mph. The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, particularly during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

The combination of strong winds and heavy snow could lead to whiteout conditions, making travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Additionally, the weight of the snow on tree limbs, combined with high winds, may down power lines, resulting in sporadic power outages across the affected areas.

Residents are advised to monitor local weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. Those who must drive should exercise extreme caution and be prepared for rapidly deteriorating road conditions. Emergency officials recommend having an emergency kit in vehicles, including blankets, food, water, and a flashlight.
