La Crosse, Wisconsin – Showers and gusty winds are set to return to La Crosse by Monday night, raising travel concerns across US-53 and surrounding roadways. Drivers and residents should prepare for wind gusts up to 25 mph and increasing chances of thunderstorms through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday will start off mostly cloudy with daytime highs near 62°F and east winds picking up to 14 mph. Gusts may reach 25 mph by the afternoon, especially in open areas and near the river bluffs. By Monday night, showers are expected to develop, with thunderstorms possible after 10 p.m. Rain totals may reach a half-inch.

Tuesday will remain unsettled with a 90% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms. Winds will intensify, reaching gusts as high as 31 mph from the east. Flooding isn’t expected, but wet roads and reduced visibility could impact commutes into La Crosse and surrounding towns including Onalaska and Holmen.

By Tuesday night, showers continue before easing into Wednesday morning. Conditions will begin drying out midweek, though a lingering 40% chance of showers remains for Wednesday. Wind speeds will calm slightly by Wednesday night with lows dipping near 40°F.

The extended outlook shows clearing skies and warmer temperatures. Thursday and Friday are expected to be mostly sunny with highs climbing to the upper 60s. Light winds and dry air will mark a return to more typical spring conditions by the weekend.

Warnings remain in place through Wednesday. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and plan for possible delays during evening commutes.
