Milwaukee, WI – A stretch of hot and humid weather will continue across Wisconsin through the end of the workweek before a gradual cooldown and increasing chances for thunderstorms arrive this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Milwaukee/Sullivan and La Crosse, heat index values are expected to reach the mid-90s to as high as 105 degrees through Wednesday in western Wisconsin, with elevated heat and humidity lingering into Thursday and Friday across southern and eastern portions of the state.

Afternoon temperatures will generally climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s, while the hottest conditions are expected between noon and 8 p.m. Muggy overnight lows in the 70s will provide little relief through much of the week.

Although some areas may fall short of Heat Advisory criteria later this week, forecasters say the combination of heat and humidity will still pose a risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for those spending extended periods outdoors.

The weather pattern begins to shift heading into the weekend. Temperatures are expected to trend downward, with overnight lows dropping into the upper 60s in some locations by Saturday morning. At the same time, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop, bringing the first widespread rain chances after several hot, mainly dry days.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon, and check on vulnerable neighbors during the hottest part of the week. Those with weekend outdoor plans should also keep an eye on the forecast as thunderstorm timing becomes more certain.
