Madison, Wis. – Strong thunderstorms could sweep across southern Wisconsin Tuesday afternoon and evening, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding, especially in cities like Madison, Portage, and Beloit.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a cold front pushing through the Great Lakes will trigger widespread showers and embedded strong to severe storms throughout the day. Areas in the “slight risk” zone—including Dane, Rock, and Columbia counties—have the highest chance of seeing intense weather between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Cities from Platteville to Milwaukee could see heavy downpours and wind gusts exceeding 50 mph. Urban areas may experience minor flooding, particularly where drains are blocked or underpasses collect water quickly. Northern areas like Wausau and Green Bay remain under a marginal risk but could still see isolated storms.
Residents with outdoor plans Tuesday are urged to monitor alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Secure loose items, charge devices, and avoid driving during peak storm hours if possible.
Storm chances taper off late Tuesday night, but additional watches or warnings may be issued earlier in the day depending on how the front develops.
