GREEN BAY, Wis. – Drivers in northeast Wisconsin could face travel hazards tonight as strong thunderstorms bring the threat of hail and damaging winds. Patchy fog already slowed visibility early Friday morning, and storms are expected to intensify through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, isolated strong to severe storms are possible across north-central and far northeast Wisconsin. Quarter-sized hail and wind gusts topping 40 mph are the primary concerns, particularly along the U.S. 41 and Highway 29 corridors. Heavy downpours could also reduce visibility quickly for drivers.
In Green Bay, rain chances increase after sunset with temperatures holding in the mid-60s overnight. Areas such as Wausau, Shawano, and Marinette could see the strongest activity, while southern counties may experience lighter, scattered showers. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storms, and be prepared for brief power outages if wind damage occurs.
The good news: conditions improve by Saturday with sunshine and highs in the mid-70s. The National Weather Service reports a low risk for widespread hazardous weather through the middle of next week.
Spotters are encouraged to report hail, wind damage, or flooding to the Green Bay office.
