La Crosse, WI – Warmer temperatures will give way to wet and possibly wintry conditions across western Wisconsin this weekend, as a storm system moves through the region beginning Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a sharp temperature gradient will bring highs from the mid-50s north of Interstate 94 to the mid-70s south of Interstate 90 on Friday. A cold front is expected to follow, triggering widespread rain chances starting late Friday and continuing through Sunday. Some areas may see a transition to snow by the end of the weekend.

Showers could begin late Friday evening and persist through Saturday, with localized thunderstorms also possible. As colder air filters in Saturday night, higher elevations and northern counties may see snow showers, particularly into Sunday morning.

Travelers are advised to monitor changing road conditions, especially late Saturday into early Sunday, when rain may change to snow. Temperatures will drop from Friday highs in the 70s to lows in the 20s and 30s over the weekend.

Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and remain alert for updated forecasts as the weekend system develops. Rain gear is recommended for Friday night events, and snow brushes may be needed by Sunday morning.
