Madison, WI – The Wisconsin State Patrol is reminding residents to take part in National Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, October 25, an event focused on safely disposing of unused or expired prescription medications.

Officials say almost every home has leftover medications that can pose risks if misused, accidentally ingested, or improperly discarded. Dropping them off at an official collection site helps prevent abuse, theft, and environmental harm.

The statewide initiative, part of a national DEA partnership, allows residents to anonymously and safely dispose of prescription drugs at participating law enforcement agencies, pharmacies, and community centers. The service is free and confidential — no questions asked.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice and State Patrol stress that safe medication disposal “saves lives by keeping drugs out of the wrong hands and out of the environment.”

Collection sites and hours can be found at doseofrealitywi.gov.
