Duluth, Minnesota – Father’s Day weekend plans across northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin could be disrupted by heavy rain and flash flooding expected through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is forecast between 1 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Saturday, with local amounts near 4 inches. The highest threat zone stretches from Brainerd and Aitkin through Hinckley and into Siren and Hayward, Wisconsin. Flash flooding is most likely Friday overnight into early Saturday.

Storm drains and small creeks could quickly become overwhelmed. Cities including Moose Lake, Solon Springs, and Hinckley may see hourly rain rates approaching an inch. Travel could be impacted on routes like U.S. 2, Highway 210, and I-35, especially overnight.

Residents should avoid flooded roads, charge devices, and keep emergency supplies handy. If you’re planning to travel or host outdoor Father’s Day events, stay weather-aware and consider indoor alternatives.

Rain is expected to taper off early Saturday, with drier weather returning just in time for Father’s Day. However, additional watches may be issued if the storm track shifts.
