Green Bay, Wis. – Gardeners across central and northeast Wisconsin should act fast: a frost advisory goes into effect from 1 to 8 a.m. Friday, with temperatures expected to drop as low as the upper 20s in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the advisory includes Menominee, Door, Marathon, and 13 other counties spanning from Wausau and Green Bay to Appleton and Manitowoc. The agency warns that sensitive plants left outdoors overnight may be damaged or killed by the frost.
Residents in lower-lying and rural areas, where temperatures tend to dip more quickly, face the highest risk. Cities like Stevens Point, Oshkosh, and Sturgeon Bay are all within the advisory zone. Officials recommend covering flowers and vegetables, or bringing planters indoors if possible.
This is one of the latest-season frost advisories issued in recent years, following an unusually warm spring. Those with early crops or budding perennials should take extra care tonight.
The advisory is expected to expire by 8 a.m. Friday, though similar conditions could return early next week depending on overnight lows.
