La Crosse, Wis. – Temperatures are expected to plunge to near freezing across central and western Wisconsin early Friday, prompting a frost advisory that could damage or kill unprotected plants.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday for Taylor, Clark, Jackson, Monroe, Juneau, Adams, Vernon, and Richland counties. Overnight lows could dip to 30°F, creating ideal conditions for widespread frost formation.
Cities including Tomah, Medford, Viroqua, and Richland Center are all within the advisory zone. Homeowners, farmers, and gardeners should cover or bring in tender vegetation tonight to avoid frost damage. Sensitive plants may not survive the cold if left exposed.
This is the second cold snap this spring, following a brief warm stretch earlier in the week. Drivers should also be alert to reduced visibility in rural areas where fog may develop near frost pockets.
The advisory will expire by 8 a.m. Friday, but another round of overnight cold may follow this weekend. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service.
